The Pointe Malibu

An oceanfront residential program on Civic Center Way treating substance use, chronic pain, and trauma through the lens of polyvagal theory. Almost every resident has a private one-person residence with a viewing balcony, and the program runs a 5:1 staff-to-guest ratio with five to eight individual sessions a week.

The Pointe sits on Civic Center Way with the water in front of it, and its clinical argument starts somewhere most programs never go: the autonomic nervous system. The program is certified by the Polyvagal Institute and builds its work on Stephen Porges' polyvagal theory, which treats a felt sense of safety as the precondition for any therapy landing rather than as a pleasant side effect of one. In practice that means breathwork, the Safe and Sound Protocol listening therapy, somatic experiencing, and surf sessions run as regulation work rather than recreation, sitting alongside the conventional evidence base of ACT, IFS, DBT, CBT, and EMDR.
