Amend Malibu

Amend Malibu is a residential mental-health program in two private houses above the Malibu coast, for people working through complex trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar, or a personality disorder. Each house holds six guests at most, every one in a private room, and the care is held closely by a small senior clinical team with a psychiatrist at its head. The program is Joint Commission accredited.

You arrive at a house: Portshead with its tended garden and water features, looking from the Santa Monica Mountains out to the Pacific; Wildlife a short walk from the ocean. Long terraces, rooms full of light, and a kitchen at the center of the day. Executive chef Matthew Levinson — fifteen years through kitchens including Nobu and Hinoki & the Bird — leads the two-chef team cooking for the household, to each guest's appetite.
