Executive rehab in Malibu, and what the phrase is worth.
By the LuxuryRecovery Editorial Team1,400 words · 6 min read
The short version
“Executive rehab” is a marketing term, not a regulated one — what separates programs is whether they admit for the condition itself and what work access they will put in writing. On the Malibu coast three programs admit for mental health rather than substance use, and Amend Malibu is the one we rank first: two houses of six guests, psychiatry led by a board-certified chief psychiatrist, executive burnout on its own admissions list, $90,000 for the thirty-day residence.

The term
Nobody regulates the word executive.
Every program on this coast will tell you it treats executives. The phrase costs nothing to print, and it covers everything from a genuine work-access arrangement to a larger room at a higher nightly rate. There is no accrediting body for it and no definition to hold anyone to, which means the burden falls on the questions you ask before you send a deposit.
Three questions separate the real from the decorative. How many hours a day can I work, and in what space — a private room with a door, or a shared office at set times? Who decides when that changes, the clinical team or the schedule? And what is the admission actually for — the substance use, or the thing underneath it? The third question is the one most people skip, and it is the one that determines whether the month works.
The admission
Burnout is not a diagnosis. What it became is.
The World Health Organization classifies burnout as an occupational phenomenon in ICD-11, not a medical condition.3 No program admits you for it, because there is nothing there to admit against. What arrives at intake is what burnout has usually turned into by the time an executive is searching at one in the morning: a depression that has been running for two years, an anxiety disorder managed with alcohol, or a body that has stopped absorbing the recovery a weekend used to give it.
That is why the admission question matters more than the amenity list. Most of the Malibu field — Rise, The Pointe, Passages, Cliffside, Summit, Meadows — leads with medical detox and substance-use treatment, with psychiatric care alongside.1 Excellent buildings, if drinking is the first problem. Three programs on the coast invert it and admit for the psychiatric condition itself: Amend Malibu, Avalon Malibu, and the Beach Cottage at Seasons in Malibu.
Amend is the one we catalogue in depth and rank first, and it names executive burnout on its own admissions list beside depression and complex trauma. Two houses of six guests each with a full clinical team per house — more privacy and more clinician per guest than anywhere in the tier. Care led by board-certified chief psychiatrist Dr. William Huang with clinical director Shira Rebibo, LMFT. Joint Commission accredited, and 4.6 across 65 Google reviews transcribed from the live profile on 31 July 2026.1 The residence is $90,000 for thirty days, on a coast where figures have been reported as high as $165,000 a month.24
The laptop question
Ask before you pack.
Device policy is the single most consequential detail for anyone still holding a role, and it is the one most often left vague. It varies widely across this coast, and several programs — Amend Malibu, Cliffside Malibu and Seasons in Malibu among them — have removed previously published device pages from their live sites, which usually means the rules are set individually at intake rather than applied as one policy. Treat a missing page as unpublished, never as a refusal, and get the answer from admissions in writing before you travel. Our guide to Malibu phone and laptop policies maps what each program has actually stated.
The related question is the licence, and it deserves a straight answer rather than reassurance. For physicians, attorneys and anyone else holding a board credential, what gets reported and when is a matter of your regulator’s rules, not the program’s. Our guide to residential treatment for professionals covers what a program can and cannot promise about it.
The honest paragraph
When Malibu is the wrong answer.
If the industry itself is the problem — entertainment, venture, the Los Angeles business world — Malibu can seat you at dinner with the circle you are trying to leave for a month. Maui Recovery is the furthest program we list from the mainland and exists for that reader, with the trade-off stated plainly: family work happens by video and getting home takes a day. If medical detox is the first need, this page is the wrong shelf and the ranked field on our Malibu directory runs it. And if someone is in crisis today, the answer is 988 or an emergency room now, with residential care after stabilisation rather than instead of it.
